It has been two years since Canadian artist Tyler Shaw dropped his last album Intuition, which had millions of streams globally, and gained him a few Gold and Platinum singles. Back in April of this year, his last project, ArtistsCAN, was aimed towards raising COVID-19 relief funds in Canada and featured artists such as Avril Lavigne, Justin Bieber, Michael Buble, and more for a cover of “Lean on Me”. Now, Tyler Shaw has dropped his newest single “Remember”, which will be featured on his upcoming album set to release in the Spring of 2021. I have to admit, amidst the craziness going on right now, this song was like a breath of fresh air.

Right from the get go, the song opens up with a solo guitar and the tone is very clearly set that this is going to be a summery jam. Overall, the track gives a very club-like feeling, transporting us back to the days when we could find ourselves on a dance floor, or in a car cruising down the highway on the way to the beach with the windows rolled all the way down. When Tyler’s vocals are introduced, a simple beat accompanies the same guitar line in the background, and it’s hard not to bop along as the track builds into the chorus. There’s something very cathartic about the way the chorus hits as we hear the lyrics,

“Remember what it feels like…”

Like many of the club type beats we have heard in recent pop songs, the chorus almost feels like its own pre-chorus as the beat builds faster and faster before climaxing into a lyric-less dance section with chopped up vocals serving as part of the instrumental mix. This track, however, has less of a harsh “drop” into this section and makes it feel softer, as opposed to the “face melting” type of drops experienced in many EDM heavy pop tracks. This really adds to the refreshing overall feeling of this single.

Another standout feature is Tyler’s amazing vocals. He puts the subtlest bit of vibrato in all the right places, which really helps to showcase his technique and add an extra layer to the basic instrumentals supporting his voice in the verses. He undeniably has that “it factor” tone to his voice that fits so well into a pop track. The track is insanely catchy and will have you humming along with his vocals by the second listen. Trust me, you’ll be reaching for the play button again after the first listen. The track is on the shorter side, but I think this is fitting for the direction we are seeing music heading in as many artists are abandoning the four minute plus tracks in favor of shorter tracks that pack more of a punch.

“Remember” is out now and can be found on all streaming services. Do not forget to check out the colorfully moody music video that accompanies the track as well, but club-goers be warned: the lights and atmosphere of the sets are going to make you crave being right back on that dance floor again. You can also follow Tyler Shaw’s socials (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter) to stay up to date on what’s to come!
