TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB AT L'OLYMPIA IN PARIS

Two Door Cinema Club were back in one of the most beautiful venues in the French capital. After their fourth record, False Alarm, released last June, they embarked on an extensive EU tour at the beginning of 2020. Because happiness never comes alone, their opener was a brilliant British band, that we love very much, Circa Waves.

The night started with the performance from Circa Waves. The 4 lads from Liverpool released the first part of a double record called Sad Happy at the beginning of January. “Happy” is a beautiful piece of pop-rock, perfectly produced and catchy. Because they were opening for a crowd that surely only remotely know them, they played an intense set of singles. From “Get Away” and “T-Shirt Weather” off their first record Young Chasers, to “Be Your Drug” (debuted that night), they only delivered the best from their discography. If, at first, it was a bit difficult to reach out to the very attentive but quiet crowd of L’Olympia, Circa Waves finally rallied everybody with sing-along and clapping moments. It is mind blowing that only 6 years ago they were playing in the tiny concert-bar of Le Truskel in Paris. We sincerely hope that the band we only keep on growing in the following months!

Two Door Cinema Club, or TDCC, came back in 2019 after a 3 year break. False Alarm, their fourth record, still embodied their unique fusion between electro and guitar music. However, it was safe to say that their appearance at Rock en Seine in 2019 was not so convincing. Under a scorching sun and very early in the afternoon (around 3pm), their set lacked its usual dynamism and party spirit. Tonight was thus the perfect occasion to reconcile with TDCC live shows. It is safe to say that it did not disappoint. With an am-a-zing start of setlist (“Talk”, “Undercover Martyn”, “I Can Talk”, “Are We Ready”), the show could not start in a better way. L’Olympia was already going crazy after barely 20 minutes of the concert. The middle of the set was a little bit less dynamic. The French fans must be more nostalgic of the first years of Two Door Cinema Club’s career, because they were clearly louder on the old hits. The party spirit never completely disappeared, though. They ended their brilliant performance on the perfect closing song, “Sun”. Our legs were still dancing long after the end of the concert. It simply was a beautiful night in Paris for alt-pop-rock.
