ANTHONY GREEN AT WEBSTER UNDERGROUND IN HARTFORD

ANTHONY GREEN AT WEBSTER UNDERGROUND IN HARTFORD

Anthony Green, best known for his work with LS Dunes, Circa Survive, Saosin, The Sound of Animals Fighting, and many many more projects, brought his solo act to the heart of Hartford, Connecticut during a four stop northeastern mini-tour. Performing with his skillful High and Driving Band, they brought warmth into a dimly lit and jam packed venue with a collection of sing-along friendly angst anthems.

The show started with an up and coming folk artist and adequately self titled “singer of sad songs”, Christina Ward. She opened the show with emotion-packed indie folk tunes with smatterings of heavier tendencies and even pulling some math rock style along the way. Her music could be described much along the lines of artists like Hop Along, Laura Stevenson, and Waxahatchee.

Anthony Green took the stage with his band to perform a set consisting of work spanning his solo career, which highlighted his vocal and performance stamina that never wavered for the duration of the night. The set list of the show was structured in a way that maintained a natural flow of energy between his more intense tracks like “Don’t Dance”, which had the crowd bopping around and screaming the words. He also performed stripped down, emotive, powerful tracks like “I Don’t Want To Die Tonight” which had the crowd hanging by every word he sang.

Anthony Green is best known for his high energy stage presence which was showcased by his ability to maintain such intensity to his voice throughout the whole set. He closed the night with a classic, “Dear Child (I’ve Been Trying to Reach You)”, which served as a crowd favorite sing along off of his premier solo album Avalon.

This show reminded me just why myself and his loyal fanbase have always loved every project Anthony Green has been a part of, and that is truly that he is one of the hardest working and most earnest vocalists in all of alternative rock/post hardcore. With every performance, he leaves a bit of himself on the stage and in the hearts of all those who sing along to his songs that resonate so deeply with every one of his fans.
