CURRENTS AT ASBURY LANES IN ASBURY PARK

Currents announced their new record, The Death We Seek, was out on May 5th. Following that announcement, they announced a tour with a stacked lineup. They brought “The Death We Seek Tour” through New Jersey to Asbury Lanes. They brought along openers Foreign Hands, Invent Animate, and Like Moths To Flames. This is an excellent venue with unique features to it. It has a bowling alley inside, food, and an incredible light display behind the bands.

After the first week of their new album being out, it has already hit many milestones for the band. It reached 7 million streams and became the top album and new artist. Five songs from this album have already made their top 10 on Spotify. A lot of fans at the venue were wearing Currents merch.

Foreign Hands opened up the night and put on a great show. The guitarists held up the guitars a lot. They sang to the crowd and got down a lot while playing. They’re a Delaware-native band and put on a very high-energy performance. You could tell through their lyrics that they put their heart and soul into them.

Invent Animate definitely caught my attention. They came out in white, making them stand out from the crowd. They’re another band that is on the rise. They’ll be touring with We Came As Romans in Australia later this summer. The band just released a fourth full-length album called Heavener. They talk about their journey as a band and what they have dealt with. It’s full of a lot of emotions that their fans can also relate to.

Like Moths To Flames was a highly anticipated opener for myself and many other fans. They’re a metalcore band from Ohio. They recently dropped a couple new singles and have been around since 2010. After their EP back in 2021 titled Pure Like Porcelain, the first song they dropped was “Predestination Paradox” which was a huge hit. They played that along with their other new single, “I Found The Dark Side of Heaven”. They put on a compelling set, and it was so great to see them live again.

Currents are a post-metalcore band on the rise over the past few years. Their second album, The Way It Ends, was a huge hit and propelled them high on the charts. The most recent album, The Death We Seek, did even better. Fans cheered so loudly when every song began. The songs were significant to them. The guitarists jumped all over the stage and had a ton of energy which hyped up the crowd. There were also a lot of crowd surfers flying through the air. The venue was jam-packed; I could barely make my way around it. There was also a giant mosh pit in the middle of the crowd.

The lead singer, Brian, mentioned Jersey a lot in between songs which always gives a personalized feeling to the shows. They played a lot of new songs and even dedicated one to Jersey. He thanked all the bands and explained that some songs were about love and family, which everyone could relate to. It was easy to see the band's connection with their fans in the crowd. I constantly found fans pointing to the band while singing, and Brian held hands with one of them at one point. Almost every date is sold out or has low tickets.
