HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS AT THE VIBES EVENT CENTER IN SAN ANTONIO

On April 1st, Hawthorne Heights brought fellow emo-nostalgic acts Armor For Sleep and Spitalfield to the Vibes Event Center for a sold out show on the second leg of the “Pitch Black Forever Tour”. As one of the most notable bands from the early 2000s emo-era, Hawthorne Heights is often seen as a mostly nostalgic band, but with the recent emo-resurgence, this night proved that the band and genre is still very much alive.

The hard-hitting performance inside the Vibes Event Center included fan favorites such as “Silver Bullet” and “Nikki FM” from the ever-popular Silence in Black and White, along with some newer songs sprinkled throughout the set list. In between songs, singer J.T. Woodruff talked to the crowd about the power of music and how much it helped the band get through tough times growing up, a topic that resonated with the crowd.

The San Antonio stop was nostalgic even for all the bands who performed. They each made it a note to mention their past shows at the White Rabbit, the San Antonio music venue that so many rock/punk/hardcore acts played before it closed in 2014. All of the bands who performed also mentioned that this show was the biggest and best night of the tour. That should come as no surprise to the fans in San Antonio, who always show up for bands in this genre, time and time again.

The night concluded with a giant singalong of “Ohio is for Lovers”, where Woodruff grabbed the mic and went up to the barricade to sing with the fans in San Antonio who’ve supported him for the last 20 years.

Hawthorne Heights is on the last few dates of this tour in the midwest before heading overseas to the U.K next month.
