IYLA AT THE FOUNDRY IN PHILADELPHIA

R&B artist, iyla, graced the stage of the intimate venue The Foundry in Philadelphia as part of her most recent headlining tour. “The Flowers Tour” is bringing iyla through 16 different cities. If you’re still sleeping on her it’s time to wake up.

iyla’s stage setup was elaborate for such a small space. It was absolutely gorgeous, and transformed the stage to feel like you were looking at a much bigger space. She featured a backdrop made entirely of white faux flowers with some strips of gems to give it that extra sparkle in certain spots. Her microphone stand, as well as the podiums her crew used for their computers, was covered in the same flowers and gems. Her microphone stand flowers actually reached out across the stage in front, giving it a rug-like effect. When she hit the stage, Philadelphia shouted and cheered. She performed songs such as “Tattoo Tears”, “Cash Rules”, and “Naked Girl” from her latest release, OTHER WAYS TO VENT. This latest EP caught the attention of NPR’s “All Songs Considered” recently, and for a fair reason. The EP is genuinely beautiful, soulful, and authentic.

On stage when iyla performs, you can tell that she’s baring her soul to the audience. Her pitch and tone are angelic, strong, and emotional. She’s got a stunning vibrato that really adds an extra layer to her voice. On top of it all, she has a very genuine stage presence that draws her audience in and leaves them hanging onto every word she speaks. She gave a beautiful speech to the audience, which left many people screaming an encouraging, “YES!” to her.

“This is a safe space for whoever you are, wherever you were born, wherever you come from, whoever you love, whoever you identify as. You are worthy of greatness and you can do whatever you want in this world.”

If you get a chance to catch iyla on any of the remaining dates for this tour, definitely take the time to go. If you missed this tour, keep an eye out for the next time she’s around and make it a point to check her out. You won’t be disappointed, and you’ll be leaving her set with goosebumps.
