Musician and filmmaker, Jessica “Jess” Silber, recently released her first music video, “It Hurts to Love a Woman”. The song/video follows two queer women almost-lovers on a quest for love, confidence, and sexual longing.

The video is filmed through a camcorder to make it look like a home video and with a high-definition camera to show the two different experiences happening within the same relationship and the same house. Of the creative choice to make the video with two different cameras, Silber shares,

“We tend to remember the dark, painful, and even traumatic moments with a kind of clarity that overshadows our happier memories. I wanted to use these two very distinct cameras to mirror the power of the mind...”

In a unique, artistic endeavor, Silber not only lends her songwriting and vocal talents to the project but also takes the director's chair, crafting a visually stunning narrative.

The song keeps reiterating “It hurts to love a woman when she says she's numb,” and the video plays out that despite the intimacy and the love shown, the partner doesn't love herself. The song ultimately invites audiences to embrace self love.
