NESSA BARRETT AT STARLAND BALLROOM IN SAYREVILLE
On the night of October 23rd, 2023 Nessa Barrett had a show at the infamous Starland Ballroom. This was a special show for her being that she’s from New Jersey! The energy in the room matched how special the night was for the artist, and her career.
Originally MAY-A was supposed to open the show, but had to cancel due to being sick. Instead we got to see Chandler Leighton rock the stage! Though I was bummed not seeing MAY-A, I found one of my new favorite artists instead. Leighton had no trouble warming the crowd up which was setting the mood for the rest of the show.
Shortly after Chandler Leighton’s set, Nessa Barrett took the stage. I have loved her music for a long time, but unfortunately haven't been able to see her live until now. Barrett truly did not disappoint. Her flawless vocals and unmatchable energy made for one of my favorite shows I’ve ever seen. From the beginning of her set to the absolute end, she took us on a journey. Each song transporting us into a different moment in time, or even different feelings.
Women like Nessa Barrett are exactly what this music scene needs. The crowd was filled with teenage girls who look up to her greatly and it was incredible to witness. Being a young woman, especially in the world of music, it's hard to find your place. Barrett’s energy on stage mixed with the deep topics she sings about made for a safe space for everyone in that room. There are very few words to properly describe the energy in the room that night, but it was truly beautiful to watch.
All in all, both artists put on a phenomenal show. I hope I get to see them both live again soon!
