OUR LAST NIGHT AT HOUSE OF BLUES IN CHICAGO

OUR LAST NIGHT AT HOUSE OF BLUES IN CHICAGO

On Friday November 22nd the post hardcore band from New Hampshire, Our Last Night, brought their “Let Light Overcome the Darkness” tour to Chicago’s House of Blues.  The tour kicked off in Houston on November 5, 2019, and will conclude in Orlando on December 8th. The tour was in celebration of their 6th studio album Overcome the Darkness. Playing alongside them were I See Stars, The Word Alive, and Ashland.

Kicking off the night were Illinois locals, Ashland, who are currently in the works of releasing their upcoming album December 13th on Rise Records. After their set, I got an opportunity to talk with their guitarist, Aaron, about their plans for 2020. As of right now, they are focusing on releasing their album, Over the Moon.

The Word Alive was up next and they were really exciting to listen to. I really enjoyed their set. They were crazy energetic, and it is when the action really began. On the set list they had one of their fan favorites “Red Clouds”, off their latest album Violent Noise. They also played “Burning Your World Down,” which was recently released on November 1st. During the song their frontman, Telle, jumped down onto the barricade and was in front of everybody. It really lit up the crowd.

I See Stars was the 3rd band to play. They put on an energetic performance. They played songs mostly from their 2016 release Treehouse. They played “Murder Mitten” and “Ten Thousand Feet” off their album New Demons. The music is metal mixed with electronic, which makes their music quite unique.

Finally, Our Last Night took to the stage. The group played songs from their earlier works like “Same Old War” and “Sunrise”, which are both off their album Oak Island. They also threw in “Broken Lives” and “Tongue Tied” from their 2017 release Selective Hearing. Their latest album was released on November 8th. Overall the show was super stimulating and the atmosphere was contagious. There was a lot of crowd surfing and mosh pits. It was an awesome way to spend a Friday night and burn some energy. At one point during the night I even considered crowd surfing.
