SCENE QUEEN AT UNDERGROUND ARTS IN PHILADELPHIA

SCENE QUEEN AT UNDERGROUND ARTS IN PHILADELPHIA

The city of Philadelphia had a pop of pink this week as Scene Queen rolled through on her “Bimbocore Bimbo Tour”. The tour was originally supposed to start off in California, but the first two dates had to be rescheduled, so Philadelphia was blessed with the first night instead. Fans lined up outside of Underground Arts for the sold out show, donning eccentric outfits and ready for a good time. You may recognize Scene Queen if you’ve landed yourself on the alt side of Tik Tok. The singer-songwriter has had several of her tracks go viral on the app and she has enchanted many with her fun attitude and very apparent love for the scene. This all translated directly to her live stage presence and made for a very entertaining night.

The iconic “Barbie Girl” by Aqua played over the speakers as the band took the stage. When Hannah Collins, a.k.a. Scene Queen, walked out with her feather boa, the venue exploded with cheers and was ready to go. She started her set with “Pink Paper” off her debut EP Bimbocore. Immediately, fans in the audience were singing along to every word and dancing. After, she went into “Pink Bubblegum”, which had the whole crowd “popping off”. Once the crowd was warmed up and really ready to kick it up a notch, she performed “Pink G-String”, which had the crowd anticipating a long awaited moment - the “twerkle pit”. Fans opened up a pit in the middle of the room to twerk instead of mosh. As I looked out into the crowd I saw so many people having the absolute time of their lives, and it would be really hard not to at a show like this. As mentioned previously, Scene Queen’s bubbly personality really shines when she performs, interacting with the audience and encouraging everyone to have a good time. At points in her performance she bantered with audience members about her outfit and lyrics, actually stopping during “Pink Panther” to discuss the lines, “Ready, set, stop/ Knock em’ out like Kimbo/ I be getting box, yeah, I’m that bimbo.”

When the time came, she brought three members of the audience on stage for the portion of the show where she inducted everyone into Bimbo Beta Pi, her sorority for fans. She explained the importance of community and really made sure her fans understood that her shows were meant to be a safe space. She encouraged the audience to make sure they took care of each other and that if they came alone, they would be able to make new friends in the audience. This was a really heartwarming part of the show, and it’s really fantastic to see an artist care so deeply for their fanbase.

As the show started to wind down, fans gave it their all for her last song, “Pink Rover”. If you have heard of Scene Queen because of Tik Tok, it’s likely that it was because of this song. The audience yelled the line, “CUT HIM!” and then exploded into a burst of movement and moshing during the heavier breakdown. When the song ended, fans were treated to a second performance of the track, this time being invited to party on stage. The stage was absolutely packed with people all dancing and screaming along.

The “Bimbocore Bimbo Tour” is making its way through the larger cities on the list now. This tour is short, so if you haven’t checked out the dates already, waste no more time. You’re not going to want to miss this one!
