SKIP MARLEY AT THE FOUNDRY IN PHILADELPHIA

SKIP MARLEY AT THE FOUNDRY IN PHILADELPHIA

The Foundry in Philadelphia is a great venue for intimate events. When tours roll through, you know you’re in for a great night. Skip Marley stopped at The Foundry earlier this week on “The Change Tour” with support from Young Devyn. The vibes were immaculate that night.

Starting the night off was hip-hop/rap artist Young Devyn. Her DJ got the crowd warmed up with some reggae tunes and singing before she hit the stage. Once on, it felt as though her set flew by. I was surprised by how short it was. She had the audience captivated while listening to her go from track to track. It was my first time ever hearing of her, but it was very enjoyable. She also has a very warm stage presence.

When it was time for Skip Marley’s set, the room at The Foundry had really filled out. The crowd waited with great anticipation. His band took the stage first to play an intro, and his guitar player was absolutely jamming away. When Skip walked up, the crowd went wild with cheers. He started off with his track “Lions” before performing his first Bob Marley cover of the night “Rastaman Vibration”. I couldn’t think of a better artist to hear a Bob Marley cover from than from his own grandson. Just like his grandfather, he had a beautiful, soothing voice to listen to. He performed many of his tracks with his eyes closed, clearly getting very into the music. Not only does he sing on stage, he also plays guitar. His band and backup vocalists complimented all of this wonderfully. Throughout the night he performed other tracks such as “Cry to Me”, “Refugee”, and his most current single “Vibe”. Throughout his set the crowd danced and vibed along with each song. Friends laughed and sang with each other, obviously having a great time and letting their worries melt away. He also performed a handful of Bob Marley covers which included “Coming in From the Cold”, “War/No More Trouble”, and “3 Little Birds”. He encored his set with “Redemption Song” and “Could You Be Loved” before ending.

It was truly a wonderful experience getting to see Skip Marley live. He was a fantastic performer and did an incredible job of keeping your attention, while still having a lowkey and relaxed set.
