STARSET AT AZTEC THEATRE IN SAN ANTONIO

Hot off the release of their latest album Horizons, Starset brought an arena-sized performance to the Aztec Theatre in San Antonio, Texas.

The night kicked off with a performance from All Good Things. They brought a lot of energy to the room with their bouncy riffs and epic gang vocals. They even played a cover of Destiny's Child’s “Survivor” that I quite enjoyed.

Then came The Word Alive. I was particularly excited to see this band because I listened to them quite a bit in high school. Although they didn’t play any songs that I recognized, I was still impressed by their set. Their singer Telle delivered an amazing performance, showing off his impressive vocal range along with powerful screams that fit right in with the heavy breakdowns. The crowd didn’t seem very familiar with their music, but that didn’t stop them from giving it their all.

Then it was time for Starset. I’ll admit that I am not very familiar with their music, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The crowd was buzzing, so I knew that I was in for a treat. As the crew began to set up, they dropped a curtain to cover the stage and the crowd went wild. A few minutes later they cut the lights and their intro began. There was a moment of suspense as the band’s shadows walked onto the stage.

The curtain dropped and the band went right into the first song. I was immediately blown away by all the production on the stage. The room was instantly immersed in their performance. I was mesmerized by all of the lights, lasers, smoke, and video screens. The band also came out wearing matching outfits. It’s hard to describe, but it seemed as if all of the imagery was representing something very futuristic and space-like. Nonetheless, it all accompanied the music flawlessly.

During the performance they mentioned their success on mainstream rock radio, and it was easy to see why. The songs were filled with catchy hooks and big choruses, and that had the crowd singing along in unison.

By the end of the set they had definitely won me over. Everything about the performance was captivating and I'll be sure to catch them next time they come around.
