Balthazar, a Belgian band you may or may not have heard of before, just released a new single and it is worth your attention. “I’m Never Gonna Let You Down Again”, is one of the three latest releases from the band’s fourth album which is to be expected this year.
Enter soft synth keys backed by a smooth fretless bass groove establishing the mood before Jinte Deprez - vocals and guitar - takes it away with the first verse.
When I look back at Balthazar’s releases, I’ve seen consistent growth. However, this last batch of songs showcases an incredible increase in the quality of their music. So much so that for me they sounded like a different band. Tight and polished; crisp and groovy. This particular song seems to have found a pocket between Portugal. The Man and Arctic Monkeys (before their latest release). There’s a dark, sensual moodiness to “I’m Never Gonna Let You Down Again” and it’s one of the few songs that I can listen to on repeat.
Make sure to give this a listen and check out some of Balthazar’s older work.
