THE LUMINEERS AT FOREST HILLS STADIUM IN QUEENS

ALT 92.3’s inaugural Summer Open completely sold out Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, NY this past Saturday. Their packed line-up featuring The Lumineers, The Revivalists, Sharon Van Etten, Catfish & the Bottlemen, and Matt Maeson drew about 14,000 attendees for a perfect summer evening. It is rumored to be the biggest show Forest Hills Stadium has seen since their reopening in 2013.

I’ve been lucky enough to have seen Matt Maeson and The Revivalists this past year, as well as Catfish & The Bottlemen at Bonnaroo this month! Sadly, I missed a majority of The Lumineers set at Bonnaroo, but seeing them this past weekend was truly a treat. The band stepped on stage as soon as the sun went down. A slow single drum kick, chiming tambourines, and lead singer Wesley Shultz’s smooth yet raspy voice started off the night with “Sleep On The Floor”. He thanked the crowd for coming out, telling us how excited they were to play at Forest Hills for the first time on a beautiful day. More favorites rang throughout the night including “Cleopatra”, “Ho Hey”, and “Stubborn Love”. Their stripped down ambience had fans swaying along, twirling in the distance with every song enticing the crowd.

The Lumineers played their most recent releases: “Gloria”, “Life in The City”, and “Donna” before giving us a sneak peak of an unreleased song, “Leader Of The Landslide”. Their third album III, due in September, is a concept album said explore the relationship between an addict and her family. With a harmonious performance, a festival packed summer, and upcoming European tour dates, The Lumineers have embarked on their world tour and continue to flourish.
