I 8 MONDAYS #1: A WEEKLY PLAYLIST

Because:

  • (Almost) everyone hates Mondays

  • New brilliant and amazing music comes out every Friday and you don’t (always) have the time to look for it during the weekend

  • We HAD to share our favorites with you

We will bring you 10 songs that we loved every week. This is our point of view as European and French music lovers. Here are our first picks, in no particular order.

Gengahr (UK) – Never a Low

Almost a month before the release of their third album, Sanctuary, Gengahr has never experimented more than today. Their last release is a beautiful piece of electro-indie-pop, sometimes airy, sometimes grimmer. It looks like the band is taking a new turn on their musical journey.

Circa Waves (UK) – Be your Drug

The first part of what will be an amazing double album from Circa Waves, Happy, released on 01/10, revealed some brilliant surprises. “Be Your Drug” was definitely one of them. With a heavy bass line that could recall Royal Blood style and a frenetic rhythm, it’s perfect to start your day energized. The rest of the mini-album is as beautiful as this piece, and we can’t wait to discover the second part coming in March.

Easy Life (UK) – Earth

We’ve waited some time to hear the first record from Easy life, and it was well worth the wait. The creative album that is Junk Food contains some gems. “Earth is one of them. If you don’t already know this amazing band from Leicester, it’s a good opportunity to discover their complex musical universe. Think of something between RnB, vintage hip hop, jazz, and inventive electronic; and you could be on the way.

Tim Dup ft. Gael Faye (Fr) – Porte du Soleil

Tim Dup is a French songwriter and modern poet from this new generation of pop singers. It features few piano notes, a discrete electro beat, and his lyrics describing the everyday life with beautiful poetry. That’s all that is needed to travel in his new album, Qu’en restera-til ?. This collaboration with one of the most brilliant French rappers of today is a highlight of the record.

Somebody’s Child (Ie) – Love that Sound

Because we love to discover new acts every week, we share with you the new single of the Irish composer and songwriter, Somebody’s Child. This is a beautiful indie-pop song, mixed with vintage hip hop and soul elements.

David Keenan (Ie) – Altar Wine

Another Irish songwriter, another little wonder. We discovered David Keenan on stage in Paris, opening for Hozier in last September. His debut record, A Beginner’s Guide to Bravery is a beautiful, raw, and honest compilation of poetic stories of life in Ireland. “Altar Wine caught our ears specifically for the power of the emotions conveyed, but the whole record is a gem.

Telegraph (Fr) – Simple Drive

The new single from the French folk-rock band is a real call to escapism. If you like the Californian road movie, if you dream of driving on the famous Highway 1 listening to an old vintage radio post, then this single is for you. Stay tuned because something tells us that the upcoming EP (that will be released in February) is as good as this, if not better.

Victor Solf (Fr) – Hero

One year. It was the time necessary to move on after the amazing last show ever at Le Zenith in Paris for HER, his previous project in duo with the late Simon Carpentier. Now flying solo, Victor Solf is releasing single after single to build his personal musical universe. “Hero” is sober, nostalgic, elegant and very catchy.

Dermot Kennedy (MEDUZA Remix) (Ie) – Power Over Me

If you liked the album version of Power Over Me by Dermot Kennedy, you will love this remix. This is the best pick of this week to invade the dancefloor.

James Gillespie (UK) - Mad World (Tears for Fears cover)

Okay, okay, okay, it is not an original song that we picked. It is a bold and a daring choice to AGAIN cover this classic, but this version from James Gillespie is simply amazing. With his intense voice and slight touches to the instrumental version, we hear this song in a new beautiful light.
